Three Kingdoms

Playwright Simon Stephens has been called a true genius of the British theatre world. Performances of his works always attract attention and he has written numerous controversial plays prompting mixed reviews. His talent has resulted in two Olivier Awards, and he has also recently taken on the challenge of translations and adaptations of classical works from authors such as Chekhov and Brecht.

This work making its Japan premiere, Three Kingdoms, also received polarised reviews from theatre critics when it first debuted in England and became a much talked about piece. Director Satoshi Kamimura has worked on Stephens's plays twice before, and the contemporary nature of these works resonates deeply with him. This performance offers another chance to showcase Kamimura's impressive skills.
