This is the third installation in a series of reconstructed performances of works by the early pioneers of the Japanese dance world: a series which seeks to validate the origins of Western-style dance in Japan while exploring its present and future direction. This time, we will reconstruct works by SHOJI Hiroshi, FUJII Koh and WAKAMATSU Miki, choreographers who created new modern dance styles from the 1970s Japan and during the period of high economic growth.

SHOJI Hiroshi and FUJII Koh studied under EGUCHI Takaya (1900-1977) and KOMORI Toshi (1887-1951), both featured in the first installation of "Dance Archives in Japan", have produced a number of masterpieces. WAKAMITSU Miki studied under avant-garde dancer TSUDA Nobutoshi (1910-1984) and has fully leveraged both free expression and classical ballet technique in producing a diversity of works. All three choreographers have their own unique dance style and presented works at the 1997/1998 opening season and 1998/1999 season at the New National Theatre, Tokyo.

This third instalment indeed offers a programme packed with three distinct flavours for you to enjoy.
