New National Theatre, Tokyo to Participate in World Opera Day 2020
Celebrated on 25 October, World Opera Day is a reminder of the importance of the arts in society.
This year, more than ever, we have to come together to support opera and the arts in general.
The weekend culminates in a joyous, worldwide musical celebration from across the globe, offered by Opera Europa, Opera America and Opera Latinoamérica, in collaboration with Opera for Peace, with vocal performances from six continents.
New National Theatre, Tokyo will celebrate this special day and join the World Opera Day Celebration Concert which will be streamed on multiple platforms for free.
World Opera Day 2020 features the great master of music, Ludwig van Beethoven since this year marks the 250th anniversary of his birth. The programme for 25 October is inspired by his giant of musical creativity and his humanitarian message of universal brotherhood. We sympathize with this idea and present the excerpt of the 4th movement of his Symphony No.9 performed by New National Theatre Chorus alongside four amazing soloists under the baton of MISAWA Hirofumi.
World Opera Day Celebration Concerts will bring six continents in four acts. New National Theatre, Tokyo will appear at the beginning of Act 1 of the concert.

This new production by Àlex OLLÉ was applauded for its massive stage sets and its interpretations of each character. You must be fascinated by superb cast, inculding Iréne THEORIN,Teodor ILINCĂI, NAKAMURA Eri and Riccardo ZANELLATO, and astoundingly powerful Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the Chorus (New National Theatre Chorus, Fujiwara Opera Chorus Group and BIWAKO HALL Vocal Ensemble).

The initiative of World Opera Day is the result of shared discussions between members of OPERA America, Ópera Latinoamérica and Opera Europa, and is celebrated the birthday of Georges Bizet and Johann Strauss II, composers of possibly the world's most famous opera and operetta.
World Opera Day is an awareness campaign of the positive impact and value of Opera for society. Opera as well as the arts contributes to developing tolerance and understanding, opening minds, and getting people in touch with strong universal emotions.
