"Macbeth on the Equator" will open on the 6th of March
Drama "Macbeth on the Equator" will open at the PIT on the 6th of March.
This is the fourth of CHONG Wishing's works at the New National Theatre Tokyo, following his trilogy comprising "Like Wild Flowers", "Sumire's Hair Salon" and"Yakiniku Dragon", plays based on Japan from the 1950s to the 1970s, depicting the aftermath of the Second World War.
Set in Changi Prison of Singapore in 1947, the play tells the story of Japanese and Koreans who were formerly Japanese soldiers imprisoned as BC-class war criminals. Those who ordered and carried out atrocities such as violence against prisoners of war or killing of civilians were designated as BC-class war criminals which included not only Japanese soldiers, but also Korean and Taiwanese captive guards.
If you are comfortable with the Japanese language, come and savour this portrayal of war and nationhood by CHONG Wishing.
"Macbeth on the Equator" runs until the 25th of March.
