2021/2022 Ballet season opened with Swan Lake
The National Ballet of Japan opened its 2021/2022 Season with a new production of Swan Lake today. Originally scheduled to open artistic director Yoshida Miyako's inaugural season in October 2020, this production has finally been premiered at the NNTT after a 1-year postponement.
Swan Lake by Sir Peter Wright is a stately classical ballet, with a rich dramatic narrative.
We had a full house and, at the final curtain, the audience gave a warm round of applause and a standing ovation to show their appreciation to all the dancers, artistic staff (many of whom had travelled from abroad) and, of course, Ms. Yoshida.
Also, today's performance was staged as a memorial performance for Ms. Maki Asami, Director of Ballet School and former Artistic Director of Ballet & Dance, who passed away on the 20th October. Through this performance we wish to pay our utmost respects to her memory and express our gratitude for her long-term achievements.
Swan Lake is running until 3rd of November.
