One year has passed since Russia invaded Ukraine.
The New National Theatre Tokyo continues to support the restoration of freedom and peace for Ukraine, which is still suffering from the ravages of war. We would like to readdress our statement that was published on March 11, 2022.

The New National Theatre Tokyo is currently presenting the opera "La Traviata" and the performance is conducted by Andriy YURKEVYCH from Ukraine.

On this occasion, together with theatres of shared values in the world, the New National Theatre Tokyo offers our support to the people of Ukraine suffering from ravages of war, for their freedom and peace to be restored.

We endorse the following words in the statement of Opera Europa: 'Art has always remained at the forefront of humanitarian values. We strongly believe that art cannot be subservient to political propaganda; instead it should be utilised for developing critical thinking and promoting dialogue'*

In order to expand the circle of support, we will send out messages and fervently hope for a swift return of peace and freedom in Ukraine.

The New National Theatre Tokyo has installed a donation box at the theatre to collect your support for the people of Ukraine. Your donations will be used as overseas relief funds through the Japanese Red Cross Society to support the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and the National Red Cross Societies' humanitarian crisis in response to Ukraine and relief efforts in the neighboring countries and other countries receiving refugees from Ukraine.
