Hatsudai Art Loft - Exhibition: With Needle and Thread, Connecting to the Door of the Future
We are delighted to announce that Hatsudai Art Loft's new exhibition "With Needle and Thread, Connecting to the Door of the Future " is on display in our open space from April 2024 to late August 2024.
"Hatsudai Art Loft" is a space where you can enjoy the art working relating to theatre. The exhibition explores the extraordinary worlds that have been created by the performing arts, through costumes.
One of the charms of stage productions is that both the stage and the audience area can freely embody the expansiveness of space and time, with costumes playing an important role within that context. In this exhibition, you can see a variety of costumes with futuristic elements and intricate craftsmanship, particularly from the operas Lohengrin (premiered in 1997/2012), Die Zauberflöte (premiered in 1998), Ariadne auf Naxos (premiered in 2002), Les Contes d'Hoffmann (premiered in 2003), Elektra (premiered in 2004), Idomeneo (premiered in 2006), and Opera for children Adventured of "Siegfried" (premiered in 2004), all of which showcase distinctive features in materials and techniques created with great care by human hands.
In this exhibition, decorations made of stretch fabric, featuring flowers and ivy, add an edge to each corner. Approximately 2,000 handcrafted flower petals and about 1,500 ivy leaves were sewn onto these stretch fabric decorations. These decorative motifs, costumes, props, and plants merge organically to create a unified artistic space. The venue, an open space, allows natural light to filter in, offering various expressions depending on the time of day. The charm of the "Hatsudai Art Loft" exhibition lies in the world--akin to the universe--created by this architectural space and the exhibited works. Additionally, alongside actual costumes and objects, we will introduce around 200 or more exhibition pieces through panels, including photographs captured through camera filters for your enjoyment of a visually enhanced world.
