Hatsudai Art Loft - Exhibition: Across Time and Space
We are delighted to announce that Hatsudai Art Loft's new exhibition "Across Time and Space" is on display in our open space from 5 April to late August.
"Hatsudai Art Loft" is a space where you can enjoy the art working relating to theatre. This time, under the title 'Across Time and Space', the exhibition explores the appeal of stage costumes from the perspective of how stage productions that transcended time and place (space) were received and expressed in stage costumes. The exhibition features the opera Aida (premiered in 1998), which will be performed from 5 April to mark the 25th anniversary of the New National Theatre Tokyo, as well as the opera Il Trovatore (premiered in 2001), Elektra (premiered in 2004), Manon (premiered in 2001), the ballet The Prince of the Pagodas (premiered 2011), Cinderella (premiered 1999), La Bayadère (premiered 2000), La Sylphide (premiered 2000) and the drama The Castle Tower (premiered 2011).
In addition to the costume display, this time there are objects related to the opera Aida and the ballet Swan Lake, as well as more than 240 photographs of the displayed costumes. Alongside the actual costumes and objects, we hope you will also enjoy the world expressed through the camera's filter. When dressing mannequins in costumes, it is essential how the 'head' is expressed. One of the major highlights of the exhibition is the use of 'wire art'. Please look out for the possibilities of wire art, which adds expression not only to the costumes and characters but also to the spatial design.
The exhibition also features works by guest artists Miura Yoko, Yoshihara Akino, Mitsuru and Tsukamoto Rinko, in line with the exhibition theme. Please experience art in the entire theatre through the Hatsudai Art Loft.
